Why the Roman Catholic religion the most powerful in the Middle Ages?
In the Middle Ages, the Roman Catholic Church has been the the most powerful religion. The majority of Europe during this period was Catholic. Most Catholics refer to this period that "Age of Faith. I preferred to call "the era of ignorance." Why the Roman Catholic Church so powerful during these periods? What does it is that way throughout Europe?
The Middle Ages is often dated from the fall of the Empire Western Roman (or by some scholars, before that) in the 5th century to the early modern period to the 16th century. In Central Europe is was the only major Christian church in existence which still exists today. This period was before the Reformation, so that the only other large Christian church was the Orthodox Church. Both churches date back to the beginning. The Protestant Reformation and the new theologies had not yet been invented.
