Occam's Razor € ™ s offer a 700 year old rule of great importance for modern inventors – Kiss Is Just A New Turn On An Ancient Theorem

By: Geoff Ficke

Most of us are familiar with the colloquial term œkeep € â € or simple stupid KISS. The expression often used derisively in the pan complex when analyzing a problem, is part of everyday language. The hypothesis that the simplicity is the preferred route to the discovery of successful response to a particularly complex issue is in fact based on a 700-year-old theorem philosophical € ™ s Occam's Razor.

William of Occam was a Franciscan monk in 14th century England. Its premise, After intense study of complex issues relating to religion, philosophy and science, was that the course of responding to difficult problems is the clean slate, dense complicated alternative proposals and stay with the simplest, the most obvious answer. The easiest choice from a menu option was usually the best way to understand and decide on a proper course to take in addressing a problem.

Occam's Razor € ™ s, or as we say modern, Â € € stupida œkeep it is a simple rule that has proved timeless in search of responses to major open questions of trade, science and philosophy.

The great American designer Raymond Loewe, I asked: What was the perfect shape for improving the design? M. Loewe, the designer of the Wurlitzer jukebox, the Studebaker Avanti and dozens of other manufacturing trend consumer products thought a moment and replied: â € OETH egga €. He noted, â € OETH egg is round, oval, rectangular, is spherical with a variable across a remarkably strong and yet fragile €. The simple shape of the egg was very useful for its creativity in addressing new design ideas.

Note the lines in the world ™ € s most classic cars. The 1963 Jaguar XKE is the only car included in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Marvel Collectors still amazing profile of this car, beauty coach slung low and simple lines of its almost minimalist cover. Bugatti, Packard, Rolls Royce and cable are just a few examples material works of art that uses a discrete approach, simple but elegant to present a timeless beauty in the form of the automobile.

The world is so full of simple solutions to problems that were previously considered difficult as we now for granted. The zipper is an excellent example. The ability to quickly dress and undress, to construct garments with utility and savings and style fabrics in the design of more functional clothing were hampered for most of history the question of closures. Pieces of leather, chains, buttons crude stays and other primitive devices were used to close a jacket or coat pants. Various closures have been invented over the centuries, but the invention and perfection of simplicity zipper revolutionized art and commerce clothing.

The Post-it, trombone, basic pistol, the Bic pen, fire, wheel, nylon, champagne, chocolate, printing and a myriad of other inventions that now seem so simple and logical were designed by € â € stupida œkeeping it simple. More a millionaire is rich not because of a new algorithm, or the design of the spectrometer peak, but because they have found a way to improve everyday life.

Occramâ € ™ s Razor does apply equally to matters scientific and industrial. It is used, usually unconsciously, to date in the world of high technology. However, inventors and entrepreneurs seeking to commercialize their idea, simple hypothesis contained in this 700 year old postulation gives invaluable advice. The answer you seek is probably close, almost certainly contained in your Lifea € ™ s experience.

My Cabinet counseling, Duquesa Marketing, has reviewed over 600 products, services and inventions last year. I remain amazed at the creativity existing today. Very few of the 600 will be commercially successful. Many variables is effective potential for success in the marketplace. However, a third of these reviews contained exciting creative elements and marketable. Invariably, these serious candidates to market acceptance included the principles of Occam € ™ s Razor. They provided simple features, useful and / or benefits that meet the needs.
