Two hundred years after the American Revolution, America is still governed by its first constitution. We are now the oldest republic Constitution in world history. To give some perspective, France has had eight constitutions in the same 200 years. Italy has had 54 constitutions in 200 years. Why have we survived so long? This is because our founding fathers constructed our constitution as a set of ideals that are not precedent in world history.
Abraham Lincoln said: "The philosophy of the schoolroom in one generation will be the philosophy government in another. "If our founding fathers were successful philosophy of government, which obviously they did, then it is very just as we look back to the classroom to see what they taught.
Harvard:
Harvard is the oldest university courses the United States. Harvard has produced a number of our founding fathers, including John Quincy Adams, John Hancock, John Adams and Samuel Adams.
Original goal stated Harvard for his students was: "To be clearly informed and well considered that the main purpose of your life and studies is to know God and Jesus Christ …." One of the requirements of the students was that "Everyone is itself exercise in reading the Scriptures twice a day it must be able to account for its ability thereof. "
Yale
Yale has also produced many founding fathers, men like Noah Webster, William Samuel Johnson, Abraham Baldwin. One of the requirements for Yale students to read as follows: "Seeing that God is the giver of all wisdom, every student in his most private and secret prayer, will attend morning and evening prayer service. "
Princeton:
Princeton, founded in 1746, produces people like James Madison, Benjamin Rush and John Witherspoon. John Witherspoon became an ordained minister and was president of Princeton University (1768-1776) until New Jersey has sent to Congress. During these years at Princeton, the final class average was between 17 and 28 students per year. During the nine years that Witherspoon has taught at Princeton, the school graduated a President, a Vice President, three justices Supreme Court, ten cabinet members, twelve governors, twenty-one U.S. senators, and thirty-nine members of Congress, plus many of those who held state functions. A full third of the founding fathers were educated at Princeton University.
What was the philosophy of an institution that produced so many national leaders? Princeton was a founding declaration: "Cursed is the training set which is contrary to the cross of Christ. "It has been many years since we've seen this kind of vision of righteous leadership put forward in the company us.
The founding documents:
There are four documents that are considered the organic laws of the United States (ie, laws which all other laws are made): The Articles of Confederation, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States and order North-West.
The order of the North-West tells a particular territory that has to do to become a state in the United States. Article Three provides that no territory can become a state unless the schools of this territory were teaching religion and morality and knowledge. Consequently, the constitutions of many states contain the following: "Forever in the schools of this state, religion and morals should be taught and Knowledge. "You want to check your state constitution in May.
Watch the Fisher Ames philosophy "of education: (He is the author First Amendment of the Constitution, which is now misconstrued to mean that we must separate God and government.)
"Why then, if these new books for children should be kept as they are, why the Bible should not take the place it held as a school book? Its morals are pure. His examples are captivating and noble. And respect for the sacred book that is thus early impressed lasts long and probably, if not impressed in infancy, never takes firm hold of the mind. "
However, today, under our interpretation Amendment of Fisher Ames, the Bible is not allowed to be studied in schools. We drifted away from the time when our country was founded. As can be seen in the founding documents of our most prestigious universities, education in America was based not on the pursuit of knowledge for the sake of knowledge but rather on the pursuit of knowledge to glorify Christ. It happened and is happening mainly through the study of the Word of God.
The project freshman year of each of the founding universities in America was that the student receives a copy of New Testament Greek and to a translation written in English! Blessed are the schools still teach the Bible and to maintain the Bible as a central source of education.
