Is it because they need a villain in their myth of Jesus, to have a good story to sell? Each story must be a conflict and a lesson learned in order to correct a story interesting enough to sell? That sounds about right to me – every good guy needs his bogeyman. In the case of God, the inventors of religion needs a character afraid of scaring people into believing in him. There must be evil so that "good" can have meaning.
